The Head of Chamber is a highly responsible for overall management role, with responsibility to provide general legal advice and support to all areas of the firm whether it is legal issues, management affairs, client handling etc.

The Head of Chamber can be the Chair of the Management Committee or alternatively be vested with power to make certain decisions on behalf of Chambers, or both. Matters to consider will include, i.e. a authority to enter into expenditure, appointment of staff, role in grievance procedure, power of expulsion, role in appointment of pupils, supervision of associates, especially juniors, responsibility for provision of equality of opportunity within chamber.

Whatever the precise responsibilities of the Head of Chamber, it is implicit in his role that members of chambers and staff look forward to him for leadership. The prime responsibilities are therefore likely to relate to the future, through the creation of a strategic plan, the overseeing of chambers administration, the resolution of disputes and the maintenance of discipline. The Head of Chamber is also considered to be the appropriate person to deal with any organization to make contract on behalf of the Lawyers. The Head of Chamber must ensure Chambers' compliance with the legislation.
